Chess Piece ( Concentration)

This piece, the main focus was technical skills such as shading, and the composition of the piece. For instance, the application of the rule of thirds. The creative part of the assignment would be that back round, as the artist is free the choose; it is like a bird free of its cage, and is able to roam endlessly. The chess piece, has to be a realistic traditional style of art, where the artist is entrapped around the chess piece. In my opinion there are only two types of artist, photographic (realism) artist, and abstract artist. The two combined will create this composition; surrealism.

The back round is abstract, as the idea is that everything is attracted to the Chess piece and revolving around it. To emphasize the idea, the chess piece and the area around it, is one of the darker tones. The bishop itself is almost as tall as the page, compared to the other matter around it; giving the bishop contrast. The smaller matter is then in orbit of the bishop, like the many moons of Jupiter. This would give the illusion of rhythm and movement as well as make the bishop focal point

Finally, the high intensity eye is the only thing as dark as the bishop, and its only competitor in their world. However, their can only be one sun in the world, and the focal point might just switch to the eye for just a second. This may even cause a pattern from bishop to eye. The bishop is a very sharp piece in the game of chess.

It is very important to keep an eye out for the opponents bishop. In the bishop opening, or italian game, the bishop points straight away, at the only piece guarded by the king. Even through it conducts no threat to the king at the moment, but may cause complications in the future. In the sicilian dragon variation, the bishop is referred to the fire out of a dragons breath. Fianchettoed, the bishop slices the board in two, and already an indication of a queen side sortie.  So it is vital to keep an eye on all of the opponents chess pieces as every chessmen is born to due trickery. However the bishop in some cases is more valuable than chivalry knight.

The Third-Class Carriage

The Third Class Carriage
by: Honore Daumier

As part of the journey to becoming an artist is developing a critical eye . In this artistic piece, it was done by many of my associate (CyberARTS students), pieced together, and everyone was responsible for a square. At the time no one knew what the picture was, and everyone was drawing exactly what they saw and not from the imagination. Also the project demands that the pictures be enlarged, as everyone received a very small portion of the picture, in a perhaps five centimetre by five centimetre paper. Today the group will analyses the piece with emotionalsim, imitationalism, and formalism.

In my opinion the art piece is somewhat qualifies for the characteristics of emotionalsim and literal qualities. The concept of the picture illustrates life like actions that people would do in a third-world carriage. For instance, it shows to emotion of love, with the women holding the baby. It also portrays a dynamic world, as there are many actions showed in the painting, such as sleeping. There is also a life like mood in the painting, such as a calm melancholy feeling. There is no smile on ones face or a frown, but it also shows peacefulness as a boy is sleeping next the the person  with a basket.

However, the picture may give an idea of a life-like dimension but the way the picture was drew, makes it look like a cartoon, and give a unrealistic view of the piece. This would be the imitationalism of the piece. Scientifically, we identify objects due to the contrast of light and darkness and not by dark contour lines. This pictures defines some objects by dark contour. The noses of the people is shown through a dark "L" and not by contrast of shadows. In the end it does not give a photographic feel, but something out of a cartoon television show.

Composition is the most important factor of an art piece, when looking for formalism. The third Class Carriage illustrates  and exemplifies the elements and principles of design. The carriage is aesthetically  appealing  due to the balance. The is about equal amount of objects from left to right. For instance there may be more people on the right, but the windows, and the clarity of detail on the left, counters that. This would include the people beside the baby, which stands out, even being outnumbered by the majority of people to the right. This is because the value is different between the two ladies in the front and the background. Daumier uses a lighter value to emphasis the point of interest, and darker value as the background to add contrast. This would then make the lighter value draw the viewers eyes. In turn this will cause movement in the piece, starting from the lighter value of the left, to the darker value to the right. This is also done very gradually, and does not give an impression of sharp turns, but smoothness. In brief, this piece shows very good formalism.

Our Journey to Mastery

Thumb Print

Hi, and welcome to my blog ! This is my first post and here we start our journey to mastery. Everyone's thumb print is unique and different; here is the shape of my thumb print. Of course it is filled with words and not lines, as there is a poem embedded in the figure. It consist mostly of my hobbies and problems I have on somewhat of a daily basis. I hope to reach a certain degree of mastery in every single one of my hobbies. Hopefully this blog is able to document all the horrific views of the road to proficiency.

The Back round is full of flowers waiting to grow; it represents all my goals that I want to reach. I choose red because it represents all that I want to express; that red can be can either have an annoying or relaxing connotation with it.

Every basketball practice I wish to have all my accomplishments bathed in blood, I want that uncomfortable element in order to grow. Before workouts I may be scared, nervous, or get a very nasty feeling, just like when I see blood. The solution is only to overcome that fear; that nervousness and go to the workout. However with a lighter tone of red, I express a relaxed feeling, usually after basketball practice. That beauty reminds me of a field of flowers, and that I am done for today. It is that feeling that makes me want to come back again and enjoy practice; not only for the love of basketball but for this paradise as well. I want to leave some part of me in that paradise one day, perhaps even my finger print. Lastly, and most crucial is that red is also the colour of heart. The field of flowers seems like a distant view to me, something far away in my past. The time when I use to play for fun, with my friends every single day, from dawn to night. When I was an amateur, and my heart was an ocean, compared to my skill in ball as an ant. Now it is more serious, I am sort of treating it like a job, and I hope that I can keep my heart always far away from my skill; that the love can keep me going through the hard times, yet to come... just like the vision of being nurtured is a far memory in my mind. Thus the words themselves that make up the thumb print have shadows underneath them. They might be lifting themselves up from this paradise. In to the world of unknown, filled with curiosity, powered by the dream to get better. I know it will be hard; but I expect it to be done.

A major goal of mine is to master chess. Sometimes it may make my head explode , it makes me feel frustrated at times, especially when I blunder. So this part of my identity is confusing to read. If you truly love someone and one day they come home, angry, frustrated for some reason. Perhaps you should let them transfer some anger on to you, as it well pain them less. I do find enjoyment in chess, I don't have to win; I only like a challenge, and a hoard of complications. I find romance with the kings gambit, as it is an aggressive opening and may lead to a maze of excitement, filled with mighty chessmen. The kings gambit is so aggressive, in my opinion, that I even give a little sly laughter, within myself; almost that I am doing a very evil deed.

Thanks for reading my first post. I will keep you updated of my road to mastery. Chess and Basketball are the prime interest in my life right now, with a many minor hobbies such as drawing, music, and gaming. I do not know the future, and my interest may change. However basketball will always stay with me forever, and I encourage everyone to try out the sport. It has taught me so much up to the point, especially the times when I play scared. As a side note,  I hope that never happens again.

Yours truly,
